Essential information about this unit

PROGRAMME OF STUDY LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Pupils should be given the opportunity to:

  1. Consider physical and non physical aspects of human identity eg soul, spirit, atman.
  2. Explore a range of factors that might influence or affect a person's identity or personality (including religious identity).
  3. Consider beliefs about the value of human beings.
  4. Participate in and value times of stillness and reflection.
  5. Consider how stories, hymns, prayers etc help people understand more about themselves and their relationships.

WHERE THIS UNIT FITS IN

This unit is designed for Year 3. It connects with units 4, 7, 10, 11 and 12 in dealing with aspects of human identity and experience and with units 6 and 8 in dealing with beliefs about the spiritual dimensions of life.

  • OBJECTIVES FOR LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT

    A1 Recall elements of "The Sermon on the Mount" and the Good Samaritan.
    A2 Show factual Knowledge of Christian Teaching on love and Happiness.
    A3 Explain the meaning contained in the Good Samaritan that might be given by a Christian.
    D2 Identify the different experiences which might bring happiness to a Christian.
    D3 Compare what they regard as Happiness with what Jesus taught about it in "The Sermon on the Mount" and that shown in the life of Mother Teresa.
